ThePirateBay turns incompatible with Torrent Scan

Sadly enough, The Pirate Bay is no longer compatible with Torrent Scan.

A single line of code was recently added to the TPB site that kills compatibility. I'm not sure why the team at TPB has decided to do this, but well there's nothing I can do about it. Until they decide to allow Torrent Scan again, you won't be able to use the The Pirate Bay engine again.

The Pirate Bay was the 5th most popular engine on Torrent Scan.

New: Torrent Engine Popularity graphs

Ever wonder which torrent engine is the most popular one?

Well it's BTjunkie.

The new Torrent Engine Popularity graphs on the Torrent Statistics page offer a wealth of 100% accurate information for those interested or simply bored.

Whatever the reason, you can see how the engines match up against each other or just view the progress of each engine separately. You can see things like: average number of searches a day, highest number of searches ever & when the engine achieved its all-time high.

The graphs show the past 30 days, atm there isn't enough data to fill the graphs yet, but just give it a few more days

On the Torrent Statistics page.

The file sharing news shown on the startpage now links to the FileSharingZ.com news section instead of the FileSharingZ.com community forum. FileSharingZ.com aggregates news articles from other leading file sharing news sites, the result is a fresh list of interesting news every day. You can browse through the file sharing news archive as well.

I'm currently experimenting with a few cool extras such as keyword auto completion and how to videos.
Also the latest software updates are now shown instead of the most popular software.

Suggestions, comments, ideas are welcome, as always!

Torrent engine removed

The Bushtorrent engine has been removed from Torrent Scan and it will not return any time soon.

I have been getting reports of security issues with this engine and just recently Google added the site to its list of Attack Sites.

All torrent engines at Torrent Scan are carefully selected and reviewed before they are added, even after they've been added.

The recent code overhaul should result in extremely smooth transition to the new Torrent Scan version. More info about the recent overhaul here.

Torrent Scan code overhaul

Since the creation of Torrent Scan I have always been adding feature on top of feature, never really giving much attention to the core torrent searcher code. A while ago I decided it was time to take on the core torrent searcher code.

After lots of hard work , today, I finally finished completely recoding the torrent scan searcher. The new code is more robust and flexible. I can now easily update the searcher without having to force your browser to reload all the Torrent Scan code. The code you need to load has also been reduced; main searcher functions now rely on server based functions instead of on your browser (which due to the wide range of different browsers and their versions available tends to cause problems now and then). Hence torrent scanning should now be a lot more stable and reliable.

Along with the completely new core code comes a new feature: The vertical and horizontal search style combined into one. When you choose to use the horizontal searcher, you'll notice the page refreshes and you're still viewing TorrentScan.com but now with a different layout. When you leave the site and visit it again the correct search position will load, either the vertical default layout or the horizontal layout (your browser must accept cookies from Torrent Scan).

I also made a few visual changes to the site: Less items in the main menu and a new secondary menu. I also added a new Help & FAQ page. To finish off I made various minor code optimizations to various parts of the site.

Could be that you'll need to reorder your search engine order after the update. Suggestions and comments are always welcome!

Happy torrent scanning

The Pirate Bay engine fixed

The update mostly includes bug fixes:

Fixed a problem with the results shown for The Pirate Bay engine. The results are now correctly automatically ordered by most seeds.

Added error suppression to solve problems experienced with some (older) browsers.

Fixed an issue with the horizontal searcher. The style switch options now appear at a more suitable place. (refresh your browser cache in order for this fix to take affect)

Minor changes to the start page:

Added RSS icons

Reduced number of news items shown

Updated stats on statistics page. FireFox has finally overtaken Internet Explorer and is now the most popular browser used to view Torrent Scan.

Send in your ideas on how to improve Torrent Scan!

Torrent Trackers List moved

The Torrent Trackers List has been moved out to FileSharingZ.com.

The move is quite logical since File Sharing Z is a site that covers many different areas of file sharing, such as latest news, software downloads and houses a vast community. Torrent Scan on the other hand specialises in the torrent searching business.

The move of the Torrent Trackers List brings with it a number of changes, the most important change is its new name: BitTorrent Site Directory. Other changes concern the layout, various bugfixes and cosmetic changes.

Visit the BitTorrent Site Directory
